During the past 2.5 years since Miss J’s first anaphylactic reaction, and her subsequent diagnosis of multiple life threatening food allergies (dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts, treenuts), I have found one of the biggest hurdles to her safety is the lack of education.
Given that Miss J will spend a great portion of her next few years with other young kids, I was looking for fun ways to help educate other young children about food allergies.
Miss J loves colouring in, and I have found she really soaks up information about what she’s colouring in if I explain it to her while she’s playing/colouring. She can focus on the pictures while she’s colouring/drawing and it seems to join a few more dots than just talking about the item/issue.
I thought it might be a good way to informally help teach other children, like at our playgroup, and next year at Kindergarten, about food allergies.
So I went on the search for food allergy related colouring (or coloring for some international readers!) in pages.
I have collected some of the most interesting food allergy colouring pages, and will continue to add to them, so if you are looking for a fun way to teach or discuss food allergies, I hope you’ll find some relevant pages on my Pinterest board.
Till next time,
Mel – This Happ-y Mumma
